Cameron, Leslie

Leslie Cameron lives in southern Scotland with his Thai-born wife and a bag of golf clubs. He has written all his life – and freely admits that essay writing was only subject that earned any kind of success at school. Before turning to fiction, Leslie earned his living as technical author – and has produced many volumes of user material for some of the world’s larger and more influential companies. In 2011, he married Thamonwan in Bangkok. He also has two daughters from his first marriage and enjoys the company of his five grandchildren, aged twenty to thirty. Leslie is a sports fanatic; follows cricket and football – and plays mid-handicap golf as often as the weather will allow. Although officially retired, he now writes to earn the fare for another foreign adventure. Most likely, to return to Thailand and spend time with Thamonwan’s family.

For several years, Billy Ash has been a regular visitor to Thailand. At first, he wanted Kodi – but after the incident with that yellow-handled kitchen knife, he realised that Cassie was the safer option. She was special. She helped Billy rebuild Tiger Blue.
A year has passed. Billy is back home in Glen Rowan; Cassie is running her hotel in Rambuttri. But now she wants to open a new hotel in Chiang Mai – and would like Billy Ash to come and share it with her.

Although he’s fond of Cassie, Billy thinks she’s far too young and doesn’t see her in his future. But Cassie is interested in Billy – and if he won’t come to Thailand, then she will visit him in Scotland. Billy agrees; times and dates are arranged.
Is there another woman in Billy’s life? Not really. Victoria (his former lover) is supposed to be in Australia – and after what Kodi did to Zakrovinsky, he never wants to see that Thai girl again.

But while he waits for Cassie in Glasgow Airport, Billy is taken by surprise to see Victoria – who is on her way home from Canada. Is her unexpected return become his Chiang Mai get-out clause?

Before Billy can decide which way to turn, he is hit by an even bigger nightmare. To buy her new hotel, Cassie needs to borrow money – and a Chinese financier is willing to help her. But the Chinese banker in a blurry cell-phone photo looks a lot like Kodi…

Is she here to help? Or is she here to use Cassie’s hotel as a one-stop-shop to sell heroin in Chiang Mai?

A Carousel is a fairground ride that takes you round in circles… and brings you back to where you started. And the Bangkok Carousel?

A never-ending ride to find a girl to get me over Kodi. But no matter who – or what – or where I found one, the Bangkok Carousel always carried me back towards Kodi. So who was Kodi?

Easy answer: Kodi was the only girl I really wanted. What happened?

If you work your way through the September editions of the Bangkok Times, you’ll find a couple of lines about a Wednesday evening in Soi Rambuttri when a young Thai girl was stabbed on the steps of the Tulip Tree… True: it happened. But by Persons Unknown? Not a chance! We knew exactly who had done it. But by the time they’d started the man-hunt, Zakrov and his crew had long-since vanished into the Golden Triangle… Forget all that. Zakrov and his crew would have to wait for another day. Right now, it was time for me to vanish into the green, green hills of Glen Rowan and decide how best to fix that heroin-pushing Romanian. But then my cell-phone purred with an incoming text message. It was four words long. I’d no idea who sent it. But someone was telling me to Never Give Up Hope!

Did that mean she was still alive…?

When Tim Melrose is made redundant, he has a choice: stack shelves in Waitrose – or risk the hazards of self-employment.
He begins in Milton Keynes, helping his former employer with their Customer Education. Tim’s hunt for work takes him north- and he buys a cottage near Grant’s Quarry, a new town development not far from Edinburgh. Here, with wife, his dog and his golf clubs, Tim is persuaded by the hostess of the Bonnie Prince to help the village organise a nativity play, a village raffle and an Easter Fete (with unfortunate side effects).
Between his episodes of freelance work, the necessary trips around the country and Community Involvement, Tom’s story includes a VAT inspection, an adventure with the Small Claims Court and eggs-for-golfing holidays in Wester Ross.

How can you rescue a Thai girl from a brothel?
Jade has an idea to save her sister, Mayya. “Mr Lee, he clever man. You must make him offer…” and she used the drippings in my saucer to draw a map of ‘Mike-v-Lee’.
First, a square: “This you,” she said. Then, a second square… about six inches away. “You be useful – if work for Mr Lee, he no hurt you.”
I had no argument with ‘not getting hurt’. “You know how he operates?”
“You need fence to keep you safe,” and she added a line of strokes between the two squares. “If Lee see fence, he not attack you,” Jade explained. “We give him fence to think about…”
When the Picasso scam on Gran Canaria went pear-shaped, we sent the Midnight painting to Lee Ho Chan in Bangkok. But our favourite Chinese merchant was involved in the Bangkok Sunrise plot to overthrow the government and before he’d let us take Mayya home, he wanted me to collect a secret letter from his brother in Chiang Mai.
So we chased our tails from Bangkok to Koh Samui and on to Chiang Mai. But when my contact was murdered in a ride-by shooting, I lost my link to Lee’s brother – and unless we had that letter, we had no hope of saving Mayya… or the government of Thailand.
But while all this was happening, where was Corinne Bruckmann?

Fraud is like sex : so much better if you take it slowly.
Corinne Bruckmann lives by fraud. She arrives on Gran Canaria with the Midnight painting that she claims to be a sequel to the Guernica masterpiece in Madrid. In her story, Picasso gave the canvas to her German grandfather, back in 1937.
Mike Forrest has been hired to find these answers:
    (a) Is it really a Picasso?
    (b) Is it really hers to sell?
    (c) Is this another scam? – OR –
    (d) Is she telling the truth?

Word of the Midnight Picasso spreads like wildfire. Dealers and criminals swarm to Gran Canaria, all with one idea: to own the priceless new Picasso – by either buying it, stealing it… or killing for it.
Mike Forrest is the ‘fall-guy’ in this hurricane of women, sex and violence… Many died at Guernica – and more will die before Mike can find the truth….

(sequel to Daughter of the Snake)

What’s it like to own a brothel? Not just any old come-and-screw-me-for-a-dollar bonking-barracks – but a genuine top-shelf rattle-alley, right in the heart of Bangkok’s Red Light district.
Who thought of it? Was it Brad? Was it Zakrov? Was it me? And how did it happen? Trust me, friends, it was never on my wish-list. But just as in the nursery rhyme, Tiger Blue fell off the wall and landed at my feet. And when it broke, it caused a whole stack of trouble.
But let’s go back to the beginning… and that tear-jerking text message from Kodi…
    *****
I so sad – I love you, Mr Billy… Shortly after midnight on that Monday morning, Kodi’s message buzzed my cell phone. I was on the ‘goodbye-Thailand’ side of Don Muang airport, waiting for the KLM to Schiphol. Kodi was history. I was going back to Victoria. (OK, she’s married, but her husband doesn’t seem to bother.) Life was heading back to normal. And then I read that irritating: I so sad – I love you, Mr Billy text message.
Jesus! Had she changed her mind already? Two nights ago, I’d pitched my proposal. I’d agreed to most of her demands – and Selena should not have been a problem. But after that red-haired witch had filled her head with stories of sun-kissed beaches and endless jugs of mango juice, Kodi decided that Australia would be a lot more exciting than Thailand.
And now this bloody I So Sad… It was total Bollocks with a capital B. If she’d told me sooner, I could have changed my going-home date, booked a morning with a monk and got on with the serious batting practice after lunch.
But then I had my Glory Hallelujah moment!
Think about it, Billy: an I so Sad… is like an I’m Available… So if she’s putting you back in the game, why not take another shot? From this, a flash of old-fashioned common sense: If you want her, book another flight… Get back and stake your claim…

It was all about diamonds; always had been, right from the start. A package worth £400k had been stolen by Chelsea’s little sister Anni. To these gorgeous Thai girls, theft was like borrowing – and the diamond scam was extra pocket money.
To them, it was Thailand Honey: it made their lives a little sweeter.
To me, it was life or death. Now the gun was pointing at me. I could see his finger on the trigger. It was him – or me. There was no other option. I had to kill him there and then….
