    Vietnam’s Playground

Olongapo was an extraordinary part of our world known to millions. This tiny section of the Far East served as playground for Vietnam. An amusement park for the American Seventh Fleet, contractors and other service members from around the world. Rides in this park featured people’s lives, creating impassioned experiences. Written with deepest respect for those with their names etched into The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Many who experienced joy for the last time while in Olongapo. The Olongapo experience was a true phenomenon, a saturation of life.

During the peak of Vietnam, the area grew from a population of 40,000 in 1964 to a bulging 138,000 plus by 1969. The undisputed king of liberty ports in Asia, Olongapo’s nightclubs bloomed from 35 to over 300. Pay by play girls increased to over 8,000 while pay by the hour hotels zoomed to more than 200. All of this amazing expansion crammed into just over one acre of frenzy. Men who had been off the coast of Vietnam and people shore based made up the 9 to 14 thousand visitors to the city every night of the year. Most were on brief liberty passes after months at sea and others awaited transfer to Vietnam. The combination created a free spending environment that poured millions of dollars into Olongapo every month.

My novel is not just for the millions who miss such a unique concentration of life, it is for those who never knew the Olongapo experience.

Author and Publisher Rosanne Catalano begins her book with a poem she wrote about, and dedication to, her late father and still-living mother, and goes into a short story she wrote about an experience with bullying in the eighth grade of school to a story about being saved by a guardian angel when the story’s character is in her mid 30’s.

An interesting read of an author’s collection of poetry, short stories and story articles, in which you the reader must guess which of her stories are fiction or fact.

Rosanne’s next book, a crime fiction novel titled “Escape & Redemption,” will start off where this book leaves off with her short story titled “From Bags to Riches.”

This book inserts the reader into a fascinating story full of emotion and drama, the moral character to be an element that stands out. The Crystal Ship is one story, played by a man named Frederic (“Our Wise”) that tells us how he seeks to experience the pleasure of teaching a young man all his knowledge, following a path that would bring an unexpected end to it as much as for the disciple.

What is freedom and how it is achieved? What is the value of wisdom? And, what is the importance of love in the life of any human being? Are just some of the questions that the author presents in this work, suggesting answers from a philosophical perspective that undoubtedly serve as a point of reflection.

The writer Frances Oliver offers us in this book a very human view about the decisions that you make and the consequences they may bring us, expressing through fantastic metaphors, and starting from a level of conscience, which really is the most important and valuable life.

Through Existences is a unique blend of political-social commentary wrapped into a paranormal romance.

The tale tells of Marcio, a man with an exceptional gift as clairvoyance who uses it to possess the woman he desires and loves. His clairvoyance leads him into the corridor of the powers of an oil exporting country, and as he becomes close to the president of that nation, he develops a program for underdeveloped countries. Having all that he wishes for, he soon begins to perceive his downfall and dreams of his past lives as Goya the famous Spanish painter and a member of the Nazi party.

Marcio doesn’t believe in reincarnation and doesn´t get the connection between his present reality and dreams or nightmares, though. These previous existences describe his relationship with his current partner. So a cycle is being closed when he finds out what true love is like with another woman –a journalist– in the present.

At a posterior future, the woman for whom he has done everything to have her is a black male prisoner in an U.S. jail. And, in this way she purges all her mistakes in her past existences – being imprisoned is her karma.

    Karma of the Thailand Underworld

Best-selling author of books about Thailand and Asia Peter Jaggs takes time out from his more usual light-hearted travelogues to bring his readers a haunting tale of violence, greed and retribution in the Thai underworld. First told to him as a true story in a bar in Pattaya by an ancient mamasan, Jaggs has molded the old woman’s reminiscences into a chilling tale that those of a weak constitution might do better to leave well alone. Peppered with almost Dickensian characters from the backstreets of Bangkok and Pattaya and seasoned with insights into the sub-culture of the outcasts of Thailand, ‘Malevolence’ is a book that will keep you turning the pages in fascinated horror, towards a harrowing twist in the final pages that will keep the nightmares recurring for many months to come.

Jaggs’ writing can be insightful, but don’t expect it to be too politically correct PROSTITUTION RESEARCH CENTRE

Thirty Years around the Bars and Backstreets of Asia

Peter Jaggs has the unerring ability of being able to blunder into a good story wherever he travels in Asia. Whether perusing the bars and brothels of Pattaya and Angeles City, meeting up with an archaic spirit doctor in the wilds of the Isaan countryside, losing his way in the war-time tunnels of Cu-Chi in Vietnam, becoming embroiled in a punch-up with the local tough-guy in a Philippine backstreet or encountering an ethereal ghost on a deserted, moonlit beach in Thailand, he tells the tale with his own peculiar stamp of originality, humor and accuracy.
The twenty true short stories in this – the author’s eighth book – are as colorful, diverse and sometimes as confusing as the continent of Asia itself. Many will make you laugh, others may make you want to cry and one or two will probably appall you. Whatever your reaction may be to some of the memories of a man who has spent almost three decades making the most of what Asia has to offer, ‘Thailand Old Hand’ makes for a rattling good suitcase read and is a book you will find hard to put down.

“The author is an Old Thailand Hand; it’s apparent he has been around long enough to become insightful” Bangkok Post

“Jaggs has become like a master brewer, skillfully distilling a wealth of living experiences into some very funny moments” Pattaya Trader
