Geisha – The Mysterious Japanese Entertainer is a work about the life of the geisha. It provides information about the history, tradition, rituals, customs and practices of the entertainment business in Japan, throws some light on the confidential and strange ambiance of the hanamachi or pleasure quarters in the major cities, and lifts the clouds of mystery that hide behind the white faces of geisha women.
It also diminishes the misunderstandings and misconceptions of the geisha’s “Floating World” that surrounds her profession.
It describes the training stages and practices the young apprentice has to go through to become a geisha, the many arts and skills the modern geisha has to perform or be familiar with, and gives account about the pleasure quarters in some of the big cities today.
The geisha domain is illustrated with plenty of images.
